Starting a business is a dream of many but taking it to the heights where it becomes a brand is a different reality. However, this reality becomes even more special when your business is on your own name. The whole world takes that name whenever they talk about the product you offer. It is great to spread your name across the geographical boundaries.
I am among some rare but lucky people who got the chance(of course through my hard work) to have a business on their own name. Also, they became a big name that people know across the countries.
A&W Restaurants (Roy Allen and Frank Wright), Bacardi (Facundo Bacardi), Cadbury (John Cadbury), Dyson (James Dyson) and now it’s me WILSON TEXTILES that took born with my name Allen Wilson.
It started 24 years back when I was 16. My parents were not even slightest aware of what I wanted to do. Father was an accountant and mother was a teacher. Discipline of financial habits and of behaviour were taught to me since childhood. I was growing like any normal boy with a middle class family that dares to see many dreams.
I was never fascinated by the idea of having dreams, my inner side always searched for something that can be expanded to huge. To be very practical I wanted to earn fame with money.
My first love for cotton
Somehow, I was attracted towards the way my mother used to choose cotton curtains for our house. The precision with which she used to pick choices for colours, designs and prints was always special to me. Every time we purchased curtains, they were in cotton and that happened irrespective of season. I GUESS this is what I liked most about this fabric. Friendly to every season, every reason and also to all skin types. I always joined my mother while on her visit to the market.
I was a grown up boy after doing graduation
Not interested in further studies, perhaps businessman in me was taking birth
I was never too much interested in studying big heavy books however; acquiring a minimum qualification was a compulsion for me. A NECESSARY CONDITION WHEN YOUR MOM IS A TEACHER. Anyhow, somehow I passed my graduation and now I was determined to not to continue but If I do not want to continue my studies then what I actually want to do? My stunned parents asked me.
Perplexed with the situation, I said I want to do business!!
My parents : Business??? Do you even know what are you talking about? You are just 19, have just completed your grad school, we are a middle class family and you have so much big to do. Isn’t it?
Me : Trembled with nervousness I said ‘Yess’
My parents asked, what do you want to do as a business, I said cotton manufacturing (My love for cotton came out).
As I expected they asked AGAIN, where is your basic knowledge in this field?
YES!! Here they were right. I have to gain the basics if I want to start a business.
My father and his friend in cotton farming helped me get the base
My uncle used to do the cultivation and harvesting of cotton and used to send it to big companies for further processing. That was the right place to get introduced and have the first sights of this big industry. It was really helpful and I came to know almost everything I wanted to know.
After the initial 6 months, I started getting some money for my hard-work contribution with my father’s friend. From the age of 19 to 22, I worked with my uncle and in 4 years, I actually acquired a good amount of confidence.
It was time to establish my own business
With all the money I saved through the earnings of last 3 years 6 months and a little help from my ‘growing old’ father, I started my business. Somehow, I managed to build a basic infrastructure. The name of the business was obvious to include Wilson.
I had to think for all the stages of cotton manufacturing.
Cultivating and Harvesting, Preparatory Processes, Spinning — giving yarn, Weaving — giving fabrics, Finishing — giving textiles.
Managing funds became a task
With all the money I had, I somehow started but there was still a financial gap to fill. I decided to borrow funds, it is a vital condition for any business person. To get the money faster, I relied on the direct lenders in the UK who had the speedy procedures that were 100% paperless and also had the feature of instant approval decision. However, picking a reliable lender was my concern. I visited to some of the direct lenders and took a glance at the reviews of the other borrowers. It is my way to judge the services and products I use.
The maximum number of positive responses was for a direct lender named – British-lenders.uk. I can say, 90 out of 100 were satisfied from this lender. I also applied, the loan, procedure as I expected was simple and fast and on very next working day I got the money. After that, whenever I needed money, I relied on British Lenders.
Things continued and years passed to establish me as a brand
After years of hard-work and challenges, I now enjoy a recognition in the UK as one of the most influential industrialists. The Wilson Textiles is the reflection of my desire I developed as a teen boy. There were many vicissitudes that crossed my way. The worst one was when my third order got rejected due to some quality issues. But as I said I always had some place to rely to get financial assistance, I borrowed funds to cover the loss and improve the quality.
My suggestion from my experience
Whenever you keep the desire or passion to do something, it is firstly important to remove all the fears of failure. Let yourself do mistakes and then learn from them. Yes, the process is not a cakewalk but when you are doing something you love, you never feel tired of anything that comes in the process. I now deal in many countries and have a bulky amount of experience, expertise as well as money in my account of luck.
Keep working on what you want and gradually things will turn conditions in your favour. My name today is my business and my business is a BIG BRAND.
