Facts About Day Porting

day porting

When it comes to the cleanliness of a business, people often forget that there are those whose job is to keep those buildings spotless.  One that goes the extra mile to maintain the cleanliness of a business is a day porter.

Day Porter Duties and Skills

To begin, what is a day porter?  To put it simply, day porting Seattle aids a business with its day-to-day operations.  They do everything from keeping rooms stocked to maintaining the facility clean to checking in visitors.  Their primary focus, though, is the presentability of the building.

Some duties look similar to a custodian or janitor, although their tasks are more in a commercial range.  These can include removing litter, removing graffiti, cleaning up spills, cleaning and sanitizing surfaces, and many other assignments.

To be a day porter, it is good to have the skills to sustain and clean a facility adequately.  It is also good to know the different safety protocols and communicate well.  Because porters have a wide variety of duties, it is good that they can adjust quickly to various tasks and keep a good attitude.  There are a lot of jobs a day porter will complete outdoors, such as cleaning areas around the sidewalks, emptying trash cans and replacing the liners, and patrolling parking lots.  Therefore, having the skills to be outdoors for more extended periods and remain on their feet will also be good.

Day Porter Education and Training

To become a day porter, no distinct degree appears necessary.  Each employer may differ, though, in their educational requirements.  Although it is unlikely, more than a high school diploma will be required.

As far as training goes, that also will differ between companies.  Depending on the needs, the training could be extensive, especially if different kinds of tools are needed to complete the job effectively.
