You work 40 hours a week, take care of the kids, run errands, and try to maintain a healthy social life, but when do you take time to do things for yourself? Self-care is an important part of both mental and physical health. Without it, you’ll begin to feel run down, depressed, and may even get sick more often. These feelings can be even worse during the summer when you’re missing out on the sunshine in favor of being in the office. Self-care during the summer is essential and there are plenty of ways that you can treat yourself.
1. Hire a Maid Service
After spending all week at work, the last thing you want to do is spend your weekend cleaning your house. Save all the scrubbing for someone else by searching for “maid service near me.” Hire someone else to do all of your chores, from dusting to dishes to mopping your floors. When someone else takes care of the cleaning for you, it means your weekend is free to rest, read a book, spend time with friends and family, or do whatever else it is that you want to do.
2. Go Somewhere New
Who says you need to go with family or friends to take a trip? A solo weekend away is an excellent way to recharge. If you have the funds and time for it, fly somewhere new and spend the weekend exploring the town, on the beach, or doing anything else that you can think of. No time for a plane trip? Drive to a new destination in your own state and explore something closer to home. Depending on where you live, you may not even need to leave your town to find new things to do. Acting like a tourist in your own city is a great way to learn more about your town’s history and take in new adventures.
3. Spend a Day at the Spa
Everybody deserves a little pampering from time to time. If you have a day to yourself but aren’t sure what to do with it, why not spend the day at the spa? A full-service spa will do everything from manicures and pedicures to facials, massages, and even hair. Go in the morning and start your day with a rejuvenating facial and a manicure, then relax in a sauna or float tank before getting a massage and getting your hair done. When you leave, you’ll feel refreshed and look like a million bucks.
4. Stay in Bed for the Day
Who says you need to go out and do something to treat yourself? Sometimes, you just need to rest. There’s nothing wrong with spending the entire day in bed. Grab your favorite snacks, watch Netflix, read a book, and nap as often as you’d like. The day of recharging will leave you feeling ready to take on the next day.
If the summertime is hard on you, be sure to take some time for yourself. By treating yourself to things or experiences that you want, you’ll practice better self-care and feel better both mentally and physically.
