How to work with a 3d pen like a pro? Before starting work with any device you should understand what is that device is actually? Its purpose? Where to use and how to use that device?
Let’s start from the scratch.
3D pens are same as the 3D printer. They are just like a handled 3D printer which is used to make solid objects bye free hand motions. It works by heating plastic filaments and ejecting it which solidifies quickly to take the shape which you have given.
Working of a 3D pen is similar to glue guns in case of glue it uses plastic that can take any shape and size. It allows you to effectively draw anything with plastic. You can draw on any type of surface by using a 3D pen. These 3D pens also allow you to modify and repair 3D printed objects.
Following steps will tell you more about how to work with a 3D pen like a pro?
Go through them.
Step 1.Choose a 3D Pen
Before starting work with the 3D pen you have to understand its working and its specifications. You have to choose a 3D pen with which you want to work. If you are a beginner in modeling with 3D pen choose a 3D pen with basic temperature and speed. But if you are a professional buy a 3D pen with interchangeable tips and stands, USB charger and rechargeable battery. There are plenty of 3D printing pens like 3Doodler, 3D Air Pen, 3D Simo, 3D Printer Pen, etc. You can choose among them.
Step 2: Pen Set Up
Before start printing, you need to set up your pen.
Power supply: Start power supply to your pen by turning it on.
Set Temperature: Set temperature of your selected pen according to the filaments used in that pen. Most of the pens have an indicator to indicate when it is hot enough to use.
Setting: Press the button till the melted filaments starts to come out, after that you can adjust speed according to your work.
Filament: Select and insert filament with you want to work. Make sure that your pen is made to design with this kind of filament.
Step 3 : Make 2D Sketch
Before start drawing actual 3D model with 3D pen firstly you have to make a 2D sketch. For that you have to select a clean and plan surface. You can use paper also. If you are professional you can choose any type of surface. First extrude a small amount of melted plastic and the start drawing lines by moving pen over the surface. To avoid cooling of plastic keep tip of the pen as close to the paper. In this way you can draw 3D model from a 2D sketch. When you finish this job simply pull off the plastic from surface. To trim and make it smooth use a knife or scissors. If you are not able to do this just keep sketch in a toaster oven that will melt plastic and make it soft.
Step 4 : Assembling 3D-Objects
Assemble and connect 2D sketches are the easy ways to make 3D objects. For example, If you are drawing a truss bridge don’t go in random way, start drawing from sides after that make the bottom in the middle. In this way, you will be able to maintain similarity between two sides.
Now, connect two sides by applying a small bead of plastic at the edge of point. To make sketch strong just draw lines between sides. After this go for the top piece. With this you will get your model ready, but still if you want to trim rough edges to make it strong add spread some drops of plastic over the joints of bridge. You can use scissors to trim rough edges.
Step 5 : Draw your 3D Object
3D pen has ability to freehand draw, but it is not so easy. Draw object in space is difficult but if you practice it you can do it easily. To draw model in space start from a solid point on surface, after that lift and move 3D pen over the surface and make lines. Start extruding plastic from the point you want to start line and stop at a point where you want end line. Move the pen over the surface to shape your imagination. Hold the pen few inch above from the surface, this will help to cool down plastic as well as re-solidify it. You have to maintain your working speed with the speed at which the melted plastic extrudes otherwise you have to face problems. With practice you will become professional in this work.
These above point will surely help you to work better.
